National TeleCritical Care (TeleCC) Program, A U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Program Supported by Sierra7, is Recognized as a 2023 FORUM Health IT Innovation Award Winner!

Falls Church, VA – 11 May 2023. The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National TeleCritical Care (TeleCC) Program was recently selected as a 9th Annual 2023 FORUM Health IT Innovation Award Winner by a panel of Federal and Industry leaders across the Federal IT sector. This award recognizes and honors innovative programs driving results across the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Military Health System, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. In 1999, the Institute of Medicine reported that 99,000 people in the United States died or were injured annually due to preventable healthcare errors in Intensive Care Units (ICU). To reduce these avoidable errors in ICU’s, VA developed the TeleCC program, which uses transformative telemedicine technology to support, not replace, bedside intensivists. The TeleCC program helps ensure that acutely ill Veterans in VA ICUs have access to the best and most comprehensive medical care possible.

Dr. Ralph J. Panos, Executive Physician Director of the National TeleCC Program, says, “the Veterans Health Administration TeleCritical Care program is recognized as one of the largest Tele Critical Care programs in the world. This program continues to deliver remarkable achievements by providing 24/7 critical care service to 74 ICUs across the United States. The use of state-of-the-art technology to connect the expertise of highly specialized healthcare providers to critically ill Veterans, who are often thousands of miles away, represents a significant milestone in the realm of healthcare delivery. The exceptional success of the program can be attributed to innovative telehealth technology and the many individuals working collaboratively to improve the healthcare being provided to our nation’s Veterans.”

Team Sierra7 supports VA’s TeleCC program by providing strategic communication services assisting the National Program Office (NPO). In support of the rapid expansion and sustainment of TeleCC nationwide, Sierra7 engages stakeholders in communicating benefits, gaining Veteran insights about the program, and building continued awareness regarding the access to care for Veterans wherever and whenever they need it.

Sierra7 CEO, Rafael Fagundo, stated, “We congratulate VA on receiving this award and for making groundbreaking advances in Telehealth. Our team is proud to support VA on this program and with their mission to care for those who have served in our nation’s military and for their families, caregivers, and survivors.”

FORUM will be honoring all this year’s awardees during their upcoming 9th Annual FORUM HealthIT FORUM Innovation Awards and Networking Reception to be held on, Wednesday, June 7, 2023, from 1:30-4:30 PM ET at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
