SIERRA7, INC. AWARDED A PRIVACY IMPACT ASSESSMENT (PIA) TRACKING CONTRACT BY DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS (VA)

Falls Church, VA – 27 December 2023. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Information Technology (OIT) Privacy Services awarded the Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) tracking contract to Sierra7.

Privacy Services, the division responsible for overseeing the review, use, and protection of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Protected Health Information (PHI) data within VA information systems, plays a crucial role in assessing privacy risk, ensuring compliance with federal mandates, and adhering to rigorous security standards and risk management and mitigation plans. The department maintains an ongoing privacy compliance and risk management process, integral to VA’s overall Assessment and Authorization (A&A) process, which is imperative for a system’s qualification for Authority to Operate (ATO).

Sierra7, the incumbent contractor, has been a trusted partner of Privacy Services for over six years, spanning two contract iterations. Throughout this partnership, Sierra7 has demonstrated a commitment to excellence, successfully supporting the stringent requirements of Privacy Services. Notable accomplishments include establishing and using SharePoint as a centralized platform for Privacy Threshold Analysis (PTA) and PIA tracking.

One of Sierra7’s achievements has been consistently surpassing assessment goals and achieving a 96% completion rating on Privacy Impact Assessments and Privacy Threshold Analyses during the last compliance audit.
